The couple shown above died this morning on the way to the hospital to deliver their first baby.

The baby survived.

I'm guessing the picture was taken on their wedding day.

Three events.

One sad. (soon to be parents dead)

Two happy. (the wedding being one....the idea that the baby doesn't have to grow up and call this freak 'Dad' being the other.)

  1. Conversation while showing a tourist around town some time ago. We ventured into the are where these guys *ahem* congregate.

Tourist says "What's the deal with those guys? They look like they have cakes on their heads."
    Guide: "Hassidim".
Tourist: "I see dem too. I wanna know what they are!"

And "No soap, radio"? First time I heard that was visiting my *pfui* brother-in-law (a frummie) in New York. It was told by a friend of his who had parents who must have hated her at birth. Hatred had to be the reason they named her Roberta Schnabel. As I recall she was just as repulsive as her name, like something drawn by Basil Wolverton for Mad Magazine.

    BBC News:
The Glaubers were members of Brooklyn's ultra-orthodox Jewish community - the largest in the world outside Israel.
"It's a terrible, terrible tragedy," community leader Rabbi Bernard Freilich told the New York Post.
"They were going for their first child. There are no words, I don't even know what to say."

    TRy "V'is gadil, v'is gadash" , putz.

You're a freakin; rabbi. You're paid to know what to say when somebody croaks.

Will this Freilich guy at least offer a BOGO deal?

People have done worse things in the name of religion than wear silly hats. Leave them alone.

Unless you and your kid get killed tragically in a car accident. Then the joke's not quite as funny.
