They Fix Lamps

So I'm driving down the road today when I spot a sign on the side of the road.

WE FIX LAMPS

So I thought to myself: "What would I do if one of my lamps didnt work?"

I'd buy a new one.

It would never occur to me to fix a lamp.

I can see a lamp smashing to pieces if it fell off a table or something....but do lamps ever really stop working?

Ever?

I've never heard of such a thing.

"Honey! The lamp isn't working again!! Call the repair guy!!"

Two things happen to lamps...

1. They fall on the floor and smash into a million pieces.

Or...

2. They work forever.

WE FIX LAMPS guy is probably not wealthy.

He's also pretty lonely.

And what's with the sign saying 'WE'????

Is there really a bunch of guys "fixing" lamps?

A massive building filled with lonely guys not doing anything?

They Fix Lamps.

The switches sometimes die, and they can be replaced. You need to be able to fix 'em if they fit in with your decor and it's a hunt to find a replacement.
Unless you're talking about those drafting table style clamp on lamps that come from Staples for about $15. On those things the rotary switches melt in a week or two. Easier to replace, and instead of using that bloody switch, just leave the switch "on" and plug and unplug as needed.

and in my wife's case, if the light bulb burns out, she needs someone to fix it. She once twisted a wall sconce right out of the junction box trying to change a bulb.

One of my mom's parakeets once chewed through a lamp wire. That lamp needed fixing, and so did the budgie. Fortunately her other budgie mothered him until his beak grew back.

There is one lamp in this whole house that I might get fixed...it was my grandma's. I'm embarrassed to say that I'd probably throw away any other lamp that stopped working...after I hopelessly mangled it while trying to fix it.

Now, if those folks fix outdoor fixtures, I have this back porch light that no longer works...and the neighbourhood moths are having to hang out around the neighbour's light, and she's always outside smoking, which totally ruins the moth ambience. Or something.
